In 1980, Peter, Paul and Mary began regularly recording their concerts, as a tool for evaluating their performances and to help determine how well new material was working on-stage. Dave Tkachuk, the trio's live audio engineer, started taping their shows on a portable recording rig, and archiving the shows at the end of each tour.
In 2004, when Peter, Paul and Mary were preparing a career-spanning box set, they began sorting through their library of live recordings and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the audio as well as the strength and energy of their on-stage vocals.
Discovered: Live in Concert features 13 songs from the Peter, Paul and Mary live archives, only one of which, "Mi Caballo Blanco," has appeared on an album by the iconic folk group. The recordings on Discovered have been presented without remixing or overdubs, capturing the authentic sound of three outstanding voices brought together in song.
